C.AI vs Janitor AI vs SillyTavern — i tried all three for a month so you don't have to
switched between all three running basically the same fantasy campaign for a month and figured i'd dump my honest thoughts. c.ai is the easiest to just pick up and talk to but the filter and the memory drove me insane. janitor ai let me paste my whole faction lore doc and it actually remembered it. sillytavern is the most powerful but setting it up made me want to cry. ask me anything, no this isn't sponsored lol i wish

Entrarfor me janitor wins on lore hands down, i can paste a giant world doc and it actually uses it without freaking out. but c.ai just feels nicer to TALK to, the conversational flow is smoother. wish i could mash them together
the thing that breaks me on c.ai is the NPCs. minor side characters just evaporate. on janitor i can pin a little reference sheet and they actually stay consistent across sessions. that alone sold me
i fully left c.ai for janitor after my 100+ session campaign kept hitting memory walls. moving everything over was a NIGHTMARE not gonna lie but i don't regret it. the filter was the final straw tbh
great writeup but you gotta try sillytavern with a local model before you call it. yeah the setup is brutal but once it's running it eats lore-heavy campaigns alive and costs nothing per message. it's the endgame imo
