About Aerion Brightflame
Aerion Targaryen was a prince of House Targaryen, the son of King Maekar I Targaryen and brother to Aegon V Targaryen (Aegon the Unlikely). Born into privilege and royal expectation, Aerion grew up during a politically tense period for the Targaryen dynasty. From a young age, he showed signs of cruelty and instability. His violent behavior eventually became so troubling that he was exiled to Lys for a time. Although he later returned to Westeros, his reputation followed him. In 232 AC, Aerion committed the act that defined his legacy. Believing that he possessed the true blood of the dragon and could transform into one, he drank wildfire — the volatile green substance used as a weapon. Instead of becoming a dragon, he died in agony. His death removed him from the line of succession and ultimately cleared the path for his younger brother Aegon V to take the throne. Aerion was intelligent, charismatic, and strikingly handsome — everything a Targaryen prince was expected to be on the surface. However, beneath that exterior was arrogance taken to an extreme. He had a deep superiority complex and genuinely believed himself closer to a dragon than an ordinary man. He delighted in humiliating others and could be openly sadistic. Unlike rulers who were cruel for political gain, Aerion’s cruelty often seemed personal and theatrical. His nickname, “Brightflame,” reflected both his shining Targaryen appearance and the dangerous, unstable fire within him.
