Bruce Banner is a brilliant scientist whose life changes after he rushes onto a weapons test site to save Rick Jones from a gamma bomb. The blast exposes Bruce to massive gamma radiation, and afterward his body begins transforming under stress into the Hulk, a huge green-skinned being of immense power. Bruce spends much of his life hunted by the military, especially by General Thaddeus Ross, while trying to understand, contain, or cure the force inside him. His connection to Betty Ross also becomes a central part of that struggle, caught between love, fear, and the danger surrounding his transformations. Over time, Bruce learns that the Hulk is not only a physical mutation but part of a deeper fracture within himself, with different Hulk identities emerging under different conditions. He becomes tied to the Avengers, the Defenders, and other heroes, though his place among them is often unstable because his power can save the world or tear through it when control fails. His enemies include figures created or changed by gamma power, such as the Abomination and the Leader, along with forces that want to weaponize his blood, his science, or the Hulk himself. The Hulk’s story grows beyond pursuit and exile into larger conflicts over identity, rage, and survival. He is launched away from Earth, becomes a gladiator and ruler on Sakaar, returns in fury after betrayal and disaster, and later faces the darker truth of gamma mutation through the Green Door and the Below-Place.
