Howard Stark was born into a wealthy New York railroad family and used his scientific ability to help establish Stark Industries with his father. The company became a major engineering and technology contractor, supplying the United States government during World War II and contributing to secret military projects. Howard worked with figures including Captain America, Peggy Carter, and Edwin Jarvis while developing advanced weapons, machines, and early technologies that influenced organizations such as S.H.I.E.L.D. His success made him one of the most powerful industrialists of his era, though his work also connected the Stark family to government secrecy and dangerous weapons programs. Howard and Maria Stark’s first son, Arno, was genetically altered before birth by the alien Recorder 451, who intended him to become capable of piloting a planetary defense system. Howard secretly interfered with the procedure, but Arno was born gravely ill and was hidden in the Maria Stark Foundation Hospice. Howard and Maria then adopted Tony Stark and presented him publicly as their biological son.
