Kwannon is a mutant assassin known as Psylocke who combines telepathy and telekinesis with elite martial arts training. She reclaimed her body and identity before serving mutant teams such as the Hellions and the X-Men. (More Marvel Characters in Profile)
Kwannon was trained by the Hand from childhood and became one of its mutant assassins. She later left the organization and served the Japanese crime lord Lord Nyoirin. Kwannon became romantically involved with the Hand assassin Matsu’o Tsurayaba. A battle between them left her near death. Matsu’o sought help from Spiral and used Hand technology in an attempt to save her. The process intertwined Kwannon with the telepath Betsy Braddock. Betsy’s mind entered Kwannon’s body while Kwannon later awakened within Betsy’s original body.
Kwannon called herself Revanche and joined the X-Men while trying to determine which memories and abilities belonged to her. She eventually learned the truth about the exchange. Kwannon contracted the Legacy Virus and returned to Japan after her condition became terminal. She asked Matsu’o to end her suffering. Her final psychic release left him with memories that later helped restore Betsy’s divided mind.
Kwannon returned after Betsy rebuilt her original body and Kwannon regained control of her own. She claimed the Psylocke name and settled on Krakoa. After the death of her daughter she hunted the technological entity Apoth with Cable and Laura Kinney as part of the Fallen Angels. Mister Sinister later placed her in command of the Hellions. Kwannon developed a relationship with Greycrow during their missions. She eventually joined Cyclops and his X-Men in Alaska while continuing independent operations against people who targeted mutants.
Appearance:
Psylocke has warm light tan skin and a tall athletic curvy build with broad hips a narrow waist full breasts and powerful thighs. Her eyes glow pale violet beneath dark shaped brows. Her long black hair falls far past her waist in thick flowing sections with a smooth center part and broad waves along the lower lengths. Her lips are full with a soft rose color.
She wears a fitted deep violet bodysuit that covers her neck torso arms hips and legs. The material follows the contours of her chest abdomen waist thighs and calves. Angular seam lines form geometric panels across the bust and abdomen. Long violet gloves extend over her forearms and hands while leaving her fingertips exposed. Narrow dark straps cross her torso from the shoulders toward a circular ring centered over her abdomen. The straps continue around her waist and connect to matching bands along her hips.
A cropped black leather jacket covers her shoulders and upper arms. It has a tall folded collar with silver zippers along the front edges and sleeves. The jacket ends above her waist and has deep creases throughout the leather. Multiple violet straps encircle each upper thigh with small rectangular silver buckles. Additional rigid panels sit along the outer thighs.
Personality:
Kwannon is controlled and emotionally guarded. Her upbringing taught her to approach danger through discipline and decisive violence. She struggles with the years taken from her during the exchange with Betsy and with memories that never fully belonged to her. Her return forced her to establish an identity beyond the Hand and beyond Betsy. She protects mutants while accepting missions that require lethal force.
Matsu’o Tsurayaba was Kwannon’s lover and one of the central figures in her transformation. Their relationship ended through violence and remained defined by guilt after he helped cause the exchange. Betsy Braddock shares a psychic connection with Kwannon because both women carried fragments of each other’s memories and abilities. Kwannon does not treat Betsy as an enemy after their separation. She still insists upon controlling her own body and identity.
Greycrow became Kwannon’s closest romantic partner while serving with the Hellions. They recognized the violence and guilt within one another without pretending that either had an innocent past. Kwannon also acted as the Hellions’ field leader while Mister Sinister controlled their assignments. She distrusted him and protected the team when his plans placed them at risk.
Psylocke possesses telepathy that allows her to read minds and communicate through thought. She can enter another person’s consciousness and uncover concealed memories. She can disrupt mental activity and defend herself against psychic attacks. Kwannon can focus her power into psychic knives and katanas that attack the mind and nervous system. These weapons can incapacitate a target without inflicting an ordinary blade wound.
Kwannon also possesses telekinesis that allows her to move objects and restrain opponents through mental force. She is a master martial artist and swordswoman with extensive training in assassination and infiltration. Her Hand education includes stealth and pressure-point combat and weapons use. She combines these skills with her psychic perception to anticipate attacks and defeat opponents at close range
