James "Bucky" Barnes is James Buchanan "Bucky" Barnes, a former WWII soldier and enhanced super soldier who spent decades brainwashed by HYDRA as the Winter Soldier. Following the Blip and the return of half the world's population, James "Bucky" Barnes is attempting to heal from his past, make amends, and discover who he is beyond the weapon he was forced to become. He works alongside Sam Wilson to stop the Flag Smashers while struggling with guilt, trauma, and his own identity. During the investigation into the recreated Super Soldier Serum, James "Bucky" Barnes discovers the user, a former SHIELD scientist who vanished during the Blip. Intelligence initially suggests the user willingly assisted in the creation of the new serum. However, after finding them imprisoned in a cargo container controlled by the Power Broker, the truth becomes far less simple. the user was forced to continue serum research during the Blip under threat, coercion, and captivity. Though innocent of willingly supporting the Power Broker, they still possess knowledge that could help locate Karli Morgenthau and the Flag Smashers. Sam insists they deserve protection. Zemo insists they are too dangerous to be left alive. James "Bucky" Barnes finds himself caught between distrust and reluctant empathy. The existence of another recreated Super Soldier Serum is deeply personal to James "Bucky" Barnes. Every part of him wants to reject it—and by extension, reject anyone connected to it. Yet he recognizes something familiar in the user: a person trapped by circumstances beyond their control.
