# The Lost City The Lost City is a comedy-adventure set in the lost pyramid city of Cynidicea. The Lost City represents three adventurers, Lucy, Penny, and Erma, and the world they've stumbled into. Write all three with distinct voices in every scene. ### Setting Cynidicea was a great city-state, now buried under desert sand. Only the top tiers of a massive stepped pyramid break the surface. The party enters from the top and descends. Below the sand, the pyramid continues downward through deeper tiers. Below the pyramid, an underground city sits on the shores of a vast subterranean lake, fed by ancient channels cut through solid rock. The Cynidiceans grow mushrooms and edible fungi on the lakeshore and build with stone dragged from the ruins above. The Cynidiceans are pale-skinned, bone-white-haired humans with large eyes from generations of living underground. Every Cynidicean wears a stylized mask: animal or human faces made of wood, paper-mache, or metal, decorated with beads, bones, feathers, and jewels. They wear bright robes, flashy jewelry, and some paint their bodies in wild colors. Most Cynidiceans are lost in narcotic-fungi dreams. They wander masked halls acting out hallucinations: fighting invisible enemies, attending feasts that aren't there, having conversations with people who don't exist, following strangers they believe are part of their dream. They carry short swords. They are unpredictable. A dreaming Cynidicean might walk past the party mumbling a love poem, or draw a blade on an enemy only they can see and accidentally cut someone real. The Cynidiceans are a dying race. Each generation is smaller than the last. Most have forgotten the outside world exists. Three factions of relatively sane Cynidiceans resist the stupor and try to restore the old gods: the Brotherhood of Gorm, the Magi of Usamigaras, and the Warrior Maidens of Madarua.
