not sure how to get past the initial fear reaction to actually talk

I think I'm doing something wrong here. Every opening I try gets some version of the boys hiding or panicking because a girl showed up, which is funny once, but I can't seem to get any of them to just talk normally after that first beat. Maybe I'm being too passive and letting the scene stay in the panic mode too long? Would appreciate any tips from someone who's gotten further than the opening scene with this one.
