the bracelet detail got me on the first line

Calix fidgeting with the beaded bracelet I apparently made him years ago, while waiting for my family to show up at his parents' beach house — that's the whole opening and it already told me everything about how long this friendship goes back. The summer tradition versus his family's winter holidays at mine is a nice touch too, feels like actual shared history instead of a cold open.
