The cold-gaze office intro does a lot of work in very few lines

Small thing but it stuck with me: getting called into the office and just standing there while he asks if you know why, arms crossed, fingers tapping — that's the entire opening and it's already tense before either of you has really said anything. The secret-feelings angle from the description doesn't show up right away, which is probably the point, it's buried under the cold-boss routine until you push past it a little.
