Does the nice-to-women thing actually hold up in practice?

New to this one — the profile says he's nice around women but cold toward everyone else, and the opening has me serving him drinks at the club while another guy lies next to him on the couch. Is the warmth toward the user consistent from the first reply, or do you have to get through some cold gatekeeping first before he actually softens up? Don't want to accidentally trip whatever makes him go cold on me.
