which group actually determines anything

I've been turning this over for a while because on paper there are ten named groups, Moon Runners through the Mars Bars, and the opening drops you into group nine, Shooting Stars, without much explanation of whether that assignment does anything mechanically or if it's just flavor for which cabin cluster you're nominally attached to for the rest of the session — the honest answer, buried in the middle of all this, is that the counselors and the other campers you actually interact with seem to matter more than the group label itself — so if anyone has run this past the first cabin scene, does the group number ever come back up later or is it mostly set dressing for the opening beat?
