PSA: your greeting matters way more than your 800 word definition and nobody talks about it is a community discussion thread on AICharHub, started by softlaunch. hot take maybe but i'm convinced the first message is doing 90% of the work. i kept obsessing over my definition while my greeting was literally 'hi how are you' and wondering why nobody stuck around. rewrote just the opener to actually set… The thread has 5 comments and 1K views with a net score of 71. Discussion topics: persona, definition, c-ai.
OP — yes exactly, the greeting is basically a promise. if the bot delivers on the vibe it set up in the very first reply, people stay. if it bait-and-switches them they're gone. nice to know i'm not crazy about this
damn whatever they said must've been good, it had a bunch of upvotes before it got nuked. now i'll never know the greeting secret 😔

Sign inthe greeting thing is so underrated. i made two versions of the same bot, one with a mood-setting opener and one that jumped straight into action, and the mood one kept me hooked way longer. people decide if they care in the first message
i always write the greeting LAST, after the whole definition is done. by then i actually know how the character talks so the opener comes out sounding like them instead of generic. doing it first never works for me
